Did you know that 4 years ago I was ready to quit my current school-based job and try something else?
I even was offered another job. The whole idea of change made me super anxious. Something just did not feel right. I came to the realization that the “grass is not always greener” somewhere else…and honestly, most school-based OT jobs are about the same.
It finally hit me!!!
If we don’t change the system we will still complain about the high caseloads, too much paperwork, and not enough time to fit everything into a work day.
Pushing into classrooms has been a game changer for me…but finding the time in the schedule to do it is another story because there are just so many barriers! SO I came up with specific strategies to help myself and I am going to share them with you in these webinars!
My caseload has decreased drastically in the past 4 years… FROM 80 to 50!!!! LAST SCHOOL YEAR I ONLY did 9 screenings across 2 buildings because I was nipping things in the bud left and right all school year. I was present in the classrooms and could see and deal with issues right away! Teachers loved this and honestly, it saved us all paperwork, meeting time, and awkward parent conversations.
I’m going to be honest, these changes don’t happen overnight. However after using these strategies over the past 4 years (including the uptick from COVID) my job seems EASIER! Ok…NOT “easy” but less stressful and more fun!
