What My Foster Child—and Dozens of Students—Taught Me About Retained Primitive Reflexes

When I began supporting my foster child, I never expected how much he would teach me about being a therapist.
Despite early intervention and a strong support system, something wasn’t clicking. His handwriting was messy. He couldn’t sit still. He worked twice as hard—and was still falling behind.
Then I discovered he had retained primitive reflexes. That changed everything.
Once we started reflex integration work, I watched his motor skills, emotional regulation, and confidence transform. And he’s not the only one.
Since then, I’ve supported dozens of students—many of whom had been in therapy for years with minimal progress. In so many cases, reflex integration was the missing piece.
In my session at the Inclusive Classrooms Summit, I’ll be sharing:
How to spot reflex retention
When to screen
Push-in strategies that don’t add more to your plate
And in the VIP-only portion, I’ll share real case stories and how targeted reflex work created progress when nothing else did.
