Interoception Tools is a 25-page digital resource designed to help students become more aware of the clues their bodies give them throughout the day. Rather than teaching students that there is one “right” feeling or response, these tools encourage students to notice their own body signals, begin to understand what those signals might mean, and identify strategies that may help them participate more successfully at school.
The resource uses colorful, student-friendly visuals to explore body clues related to energy, hunger, thirst, bathroom needs, regulation, muscle tension and movement, pain and comfort, temperature, and breathing. Students are guided beyond simply identifying a sensation to thinking about what their body might be telling them and what they can try next.
The packet includes
- Body Clue of the Day visuals
- Transition Body Check Cards
- Movement Reflection Board
- Temperature Body Checks
- Fast/Slow/Just Right Body visuals
- Calm breathing strategies
- Body mapping and body clue activities
- Emotion comparison activities
- Regulation Menu
Several tools are designed specifically for natural school routines such as before lunch, after recess, before learning, before testing, during transitions, before a loud assembly, and before going home, making it easier to build interoceptive awareness where students actually need it.
These tools can be used by occupational therapy practitioners, speech-language pathologists, counselors/social workers, psychologists, teachers, and other school staff to create a shared language around body awareness, self-regulation, and participation.
